Remember the first two Terminator movies? In the first one the T-800 was the enemy but it became one of the good guys in the sequel. Well, Prototype 2 is kinda like that, only in reverse. Alex Mercer, the player character in the original Protoype, is now the bad guy in the sequel.
As per the details revealed in the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine UK, players will take control of a "grizzled military veteran" named Sgt. James Heller in Prototype 2.
"Heller is an infinitely cooler character than his (and your) new arch-rival," reads part of the OXM feature. "He's a resourceful, at times subordinate, combat specialist who soon learns to revel in the awesome physical capabilities the Blacklight virus bestows upon him."
Heller and Mercer will be clashing across a the big, mutant-filled landscapes of New York City. Developer Radical Entertainment isn't making major changes to the original's core gameplay, but they are making a few improvements. For one, they've put "some real thought" into how a big city like New York would react to a virulent outbreak.
"It isn't a case of dumbing down the action," OXM explains further. "It's a case of Radical finding a way to accommodate the same level of on-screen chaos as seen in Prototype 1, without replicating the occasional feeling of helplessness that marred that game".
The result, OXM reports, is a "a smoother, more considerate game world that allows you to properly feel like you're the strongest, smartest, slickest kid in the playground."
Prototype 2 is currently being developed by Radical Entertainment. Acivision will once again be publishing the game. It's currently scheduled for release late next year on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
