More details on Starcraft 2 from Blizzard's WorldWide Invitationals - Image 1

A panel discussion at Blizzard's Worldwide Invitational in Seoul, South Korea, was held regarding Starcraft II. This discussion yielded some very interesting points and updates on the game from none other than the higher-ups at Blizzard such as Rob Pardo, Chris Sigaty, Dustin Browder, Mike Morhaime, Paul Sams, Chris Metzen, and Jungwon Hahn.

Currently, each race in the game is being balanced by professional gamers, and it has been said that they will be bringing in more people once the game hits beta testing. Resource collection will remain pretty much the same as the first with a few undisclosed changes. The speakers gave word though that managing resources is still integral to winning games. The game should still feel a bit similar to its first iteration because the developers felt that the game must stay close to its roots in terms of playability.

Starcraft 2 currently has no limit when grouping units. While this will definitely raise the ire of some players, I believe it should make things a lot simpler for those with less than stellar micromanaging skills (like me!). For those who are interested in the development process of the game, they gave some additional details on that as well.
  • The game has been in development since 2003
  • StarCraft 2's development team is around 40 members strong
  • There will be no Starcraft 2 ports on consoles since the fees are too high
  • The game will be playable on Windows XP and Vista
  • The pre-alpha version does NOT support DX10, although plans are being made to enable it to.
We're very excited about this game and we're just waiting for more information to be released about it. Keep checking back here to see if we're able to unburrow some more tidbits on Starcraft 2.
