Man vs. Machine Breaks FPS World Record |

Browser-based first-person shooter Man vs. Machine may not have the hard numbers of a Call of Duty or a Battlefield, but it does have one thing no other shooter can claim – the Guinness-confirmed World Record for most simultaneous players in a match. Because that’s totally a thing.

The previous record, set by Planetside, was 600 players. Man vs. Machine demolished the old record with an astounding 999 concurrent players, all gleefully blasting each other into debris. Sadly, MuchDifferent, the studio behind the game and the event, fell just shy of their actual goal of 1,000 players.
The CEO of MuchDifferent, Christian Lönnholm, had nothing but positive comments regarding the event. He celebrated the lag-free performance of the title, and the sheer fun of so many players competing at once. He did lament missing the record, but was absolutely pleased by the massive turnout and the strong performance of the game under such stress.
What’s the largest online match you’ve ever been in? Would you want to compete with 998 other players at once?
