The DIG cover art - Image 1What is The DIG and Digg? The DIG is an adventure game released by LucasArts back in 1995. It is the 11th game that was made using the SCUMM engine. It was based on a novel by Alan Dean Foster. On the other hand, we have DIGG, which is a website that carries different articles on a wide range of subjects. Now, from what we can see there is a large difference between the two, however, to certain individuals it seems that the differences aren't far enough.

LucasArts founder George Lucas has filed a Notice of Opposition (NOO) over trademark infringement concerns against Digg.com. Mr. Lucas feels that The DIG and Digg.com sound too much alike. Here's what was stated in the NOO:

The Applicant's registration and use of the DIGG Mark would likely create confusion, mistake, or deception in the minds of prospective purchasers as to the origin or source of the Opposer's Goods associated with THE DIG Mark.

This action has immediately raised the ire of certain individuals who have openly condemned the actions of LucasArts and George Lucas. Others on the other hand are blaming the company but absolving George Lucas of any blame.

» wtf

they're not even the same name! This is nowhere near a trademark infringement. And even so if this game was made in 1995, why didn't they complain earlier? This case should seriously be dismissed

» What biatchery.

For one thing, one is a site and the other is a video game. That is not infringement.

Also, THE DIG is ELEVEN YEARS OLD! I seriously doubt digg.com is affecting LucasArts' income over a game that hasn't been in stores for 9-10 years.

And what can he say? That people would be out buying THE DIG if only digg.com didn't exist? Ya, right.

» Digg.com

Digg.com has .com at the end which make the whole copy right infrengment go away plus it has an extra g.

and digg.com is not the digg or the dig so George Lucus can go sux my balls if he wants who its just like how apple's trying to steal the iphone name from cisco even tho cisco had it first and is the better company lol. Cisco rocks.
