Lego Star Wars is one of those simple-to-play, but ridiculously fun game experiences. Its unique sense of humor, low barrier of entry and familiar cast of characters practically guarantee the game some degree of success, but it looks like the franchise has surpassed all possible expectations.

The Lego group today announced that it has moved over 30 million Lego Star Wars games, assuming you combine sales of all the varying versions and titles in the franchise. The company also announced that it had sealed a new deal with Lucasfilm to continue making Star Wars toys and games for the next ten years – expiring 45 years after the initial theatre release of Star Wars: A New Hope.
The first Lego Star Wars game launched in 2005, and the series has seen consistent success throughout the last seven years. The most recent iteration, Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, came out in 2011. There’s no word on whether we can expect another title in the near future, but with new hardware on the way you can be sure the franchise will be making an appearance.
