Left 4 Dead updated with lobby browser, more |
Ó

A new lobby browser has been added to the PC version of Left 4 Dead via an update released by Valve. The browser shows a list of optimal games that they can join, paring down the thousands of lobbies and games to make it easier to find the best ones available.
Both official and add-on campaigns are listed in the browser including those for add-ons that haven't been installed on your PC yet. You can filter the list according to difficulty, official and/or add-on campaigns, and by lobbies and/or games in progress.
Here's the list of changes included in the update:
Left 4 Dead
- The Play on Steam Group Server screen now displays which Steam group it's searching while updating the list
- After calling a vote to change difficulty in game it is now correctly updated in matchmaking
- When downloading a new version of an add-on and installing it (by double clicking the .VPK file), it will now correctly overwrite the previous version, even while Left 4 Dead is currently running
- Addressed a crash when two mission files with the same name are installed
- Steam Group Servers now will now correctly offer download links when running add-on campaigns
- The server will now warn if the public or private tags exceed their limits. Public tags are limited to 63 characters. Private tags used for matchmaking are now limited to 1024 characters. Note that the private tags include the name of each add-on campaign installed on the server, so an excessive number of add-on campaigns can hit this limit
- The VPK tool should be able to handle campaigns larger than 500MB now
- You can now drag and drop or pass a VPK file to the vpk.exe tool to have it extract the contents of the add-on to a folder. This mirrors the functionality of passing a folder and having it create a VPK file
- Detail.vbsp and lights.rad have been added to the distribution

Ever since VALVE has released L4D, they have been catering to the PC version and throwing the Xbox 360 version a little update and a new mode with a stupid map. There hasn't even been one update for the Orange Box. While the PC version has an SDK which has created hundreds of maps and all of these options and features, they basically ignore the Xbox 360. The only way you can play VALVES amazing games to the fullest is if you have a 2,000$ gaming computer. Im definitely not buying L4D2 because it will be the same story.
also, THE GAME
If you look out there a computer to run valve games at full with AA and AF will cost you $500 tops. Computers really don't cost much these days, if you know what you are doing you can get a machine under the price of a PS3 and get way more out of it.
i built my computer for just under $450 and can run Left 4 Dead at max settings with no problems. Same goes for TF2, Half-Life 2, etc, and my computer wasn't meant to be for gaming since i have a psp and 360 for that.
that $450 was before I bought a new monitor
