Irrational: BioShock Infinite isn't just 'BioShock in the sky' |

For the first two BioShock games, all the took place in a habitat submerged deep underwater. Developer Irrational Games is taking the action to an airborne city in BioShock Infinite, but that doesn't mean the upcoming game is just "BioShock in the sky".
Speaking at a panel duing PAX East, the Irrational team of Ken Levine, Nate Wells, Shawn Robertson, and Stephen Alexander said that the goal in creating BioShock Infinite was to make it completely different to the previous games in the franchise in order to keep the dev team interested. A simple "BioShock in the sky" game would be just result in them becoming "f*cking bored".
There will be a few similarities between the original and Infinite, of course, but Irrational believes Infinite will leave players with a different impression. They're making the game's environment an active participant in the gameplay experience, for one.
Where in BioShock Rapture's underwater location didn't offer much other than to let players gaze at all the water outside the underwater city's glass walls, Infinite's airborne city and its rickety platforms means players are always in constant danger of falling to their doom. As designer Levine puts it, it's "like being on a roller coaster while hanging in the air, and you have a fucking gun."
Irrational and publisher 2K Games plan to release BioShock Infinite sometime next year on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
