Interplay bringing Fallout, MDK, Descent, other classics to GameTap - Image 1

The likes of Fallout, MDK, Descent, FreeSpace, and Earthworm Jim will be debuting on GameTap soon, as the PC game delivery service recently reached an agreement with Interplay Entertainment.

And according to a sneak peak announcement made at the GameTap community, the service has been granted added rights to put both new and returning selections into digital purchase and/or free-play options.

GameTap's free-play option is an ad-supported revenue model, which allows any gamer with a stable Internet connection to play full version games from the service without need to pay for them.

The revenue earned from the pre-launch and post-launch sequences for each game will serve as compensation, similar to the Ubisoft free game stunt. In order for the feature to work, however, the game must be offered as free-play first.

GameTap has confirmed that the following games have been added to the service's collection as a result of the agreement with Interplay:
  • American Deer Hunting 2000 (Windows)
  • Battle Chess (DOS)
  • Clayfighter (Genesis)
  • Descent II (Windows)
  • Descent III (Windows)
  • Descent: Freespace (Windows)
  • Descent: Freespace Silent Threat Battle Pack (Windows)
  • Die By the Sword (Windows)
  • Earthworm Jim 3D (Windows)
  • Earthworm Jim (Genesis)
  • Earthworm Jim 2 (Genesis)
  • Freespace 2 (WINDOWS)
  • MDK (Windows)
  • Offroad Redneck Racing (Windows)
Indeed, it looks as if Interplay is serious about revitalizing the gaming populace's love for the company's legacy and game portfolio, as well as introducing them to the new generation of PC gamers who may not have experienced the classics that many deemed industry-moving.
Interplay's Herve Caen, CEO of the reformed game company, said:

This licensing deal is a good example of how Interplay is leveraging its library of intellectual properties. The company will continue to either reinvent some of those properties by developing them into new versions or sequels, or by partnering with an existing leader like GameTap, where the original titles can live on.

We imagine that the company has made several nostalgic gamers' dreams come true. Good show, Interplay. Jolly good show.

In line with this announcement, three new games from Take-Two Interactive are entering GameTap. While Civilization IV, Sid MeierÂ’s Pirates, and Civilization IV Warlords will give players more choices, it doesn't ring well for the six games that will be removed after a deal update with Take 2:
  • Age of Wonders II: The WizardÂ’s Throne
  • Fly! 2k
  • Mall Tycoon
  • Myth II: Soulblighter
  • Nocturne
  • Outdoor Life: SportsmanÂ’s Challenge
