Here’s that Microsoft Tablet No One will Buy

Apple has been dominating the tablet market for some time now. iPad sales are in the zillions and no one has managed to bring a serious competitor to bear. Microsoft is looking to change all that with its brand new Surface line of tablets, which run on Windows 8 and offer a unique bunch of features.

Look for two tablets to start with: An ARM-based model known as the RT, and an Intel-based processer known as the Surface Pro (which, gasp!, may play games!). Here’s the quick rundown provided by Microsoft:

Microsoft also unveiled what is arguably the coolest selling point for the device—its combination cover/physical keyboard (which you can see in the image above).

Of course, since this isn’t Apple we’re talking about, no pricing information was provided nor was there any concrete release date. We will (naturally) keep you posted.

In the meantime, what do you think? Can Microsoft launch a true iPad competitor, or is this Zune all over again?

The biggest selling point of this tablet is that it runs windows. what does that mean? ACTUAL MICROSOFT OFFICE, and with a full usb port im sure may businesses will actually see this as a business device not some childish toy like an ipad. but i digress from my main point, which was ITS FLIPPING WINDOWS and 80% of personal computers are windows computers. this means that if anyone wanted to buy a computer they could also get this tablet instead. From personal experience i have an ipad , ipad 2, and ipad 3, why do i have them you ask? well ask the people who gave them to me as gifts, and i would have sold them in a heartbeat if they didn't hold any sentimental value. the ipad 1 and 3 are collecting dust and the ipad 2 is my go to device for netflix while im in the bathroom. it serves me zero business capabilities because you need itunes to make the stupid thing work and we cant put itunes on our work computers. i know your going to say "what about cloud storage" sorry but i'd rather just carry my ultrabook with me then have to get a bluetooth keyboard, some cloud storage / word editor app from the app store and kill my phones battery by tethering. its just not economical and thats my two cents on the situation. i'll be back on this post in a few months to laugh in your face on how wrong you were ;)

Headline: Here’s that Microsoft Tablet No One will Buy

Apple fanboy's

Please stay professional. That said, it's good that this will be coming out.
If company's keep pushing each other, better stuff will come.
That's how it works.

Are you fucking kidding me?

I've been waiting for something like this or better.
I was thinking about getting an Archos PC tablet or even a slate.

But if Microsoft are gonna be pushing for it directly then I want them to shut up and take my money.

I have moxed views on how Windows 8 will be benficial to me apart from a more optimized OS, but hey IF it dosent manage to sell that well we could have another Halo game (Reach or 3 or Combat eveolved HD) ported to windows Platform just like Vista and Halo 2

Since it is confirmed that the Pro version will have the quad core I5 I would have to say that Apple should worry, I wouldn't buy an Apple anything in consideration to everything that they have pulled in court to avoid competition but there's a defining moment that a fad finds itself on the ropes and wishes it did everything differently.

Seriously, this commentary is going beyond unprofessional.

That tablet is an impressive piece of hardware (the higher end models rocks Ivy Bridge for Pete's sake, but feel free not to mention that--not like that information is posted on Engadget, Gizmodo, Tom's Hardware, Anandtech, Mashable, etc.)

Whether or not it'll outsell the iPad isn't even a relevant point, because it's still a great piece of hardware that many people will buy.

Todd, please censor yourself or at least run your articles by someone before posting them.

That's the best you came up with? I don't blame you, your intelligence is below a donkey so it figures you just use whatever the other dicks say.

Regardless of what side of the camp you are on, we the consumer require competition to have choice, keeps prices in check and force innovation. We will all benefit from having a number of players in a good position rather that a single dominant one that forces everything their way. I for one hope that this succeeds to some extent.

That's not always true. Neither Droid nor WP have brought down the iPhone price.

But iPhone prices have not gone up because we do have options. Just imagine what would happen if the iPhone become the only option.

Not to mention the benefit of having variety. I enjoy the simplistic mac approach for some things, the versatility of linux for others, and the sound ease of productivity of windows still for others. They all cater to very different aspects of life. I loved mac until I started to tinker with my devices and as I began to play the techie more I found that it no longer suited my needs.

they need to price it very carefully as to compete with android and ipad, i may get one if its priced right it will be interesting to see what software will run on the windows rt system as it will have different software than the pro version

did everybody forget Microsoft's first tablet came out 10 years ago, apple just copied it and made a simple to understand easy to use peripheral just like the iphone which copied other smartphones, back then you had to be smart to use a smartphone.
