Help This Man Save His World |
Listed in: News Tags: civilization, civilization ii, reddit
Civilization is one of those games that I am not allowed to play. Something about the turn-based mechanics is irresistible to my procedure-dependent brain, which ends up causing me to become obsessed and play the game long after I should have logged off and called it a night.

Of course, there are obsessions, and then there are obsessions. Take, for example, the story of Lycerius, a Redditor who has been playing the same game of Civilization II for 10 years. Not straight, of course—he comes and goes periodically as time allows.
However, something is amiss in Lycerius’s Civ II save. The world, thanks to nuclear proliferation and constant conflict, has devolved into a horrible wasteland. Here are some highlights as told by the man himself:
- The world is a hellish nightmare of suffering and devastation.
- The ice caps have melted over 20 times (somehow) due primarily to the many nuclear wars. As a result, every inch of land in the world that isn't a mountain is inundated swampland, useless to farming. Most of which is irradiated anyway.
- The three remaining nations have been locked in an eternal death struggle for almost 2000 years. Peace seems to be impossible. Every time a cease-fire is signed, the Vikings will surprise attack me or the Americans the very next turn, often with nuclear weapons.
There’s more detailed information available on Lycerius’s Reddit post. Anyway, he’s come to the Internet with one simple request: How can he end the war, clean up the swamps and get his civilization back to farming and producing?
If you have suggestions, head over to The Eternal War sub-Reddit and give Lycerius a hand.
