Apparently video games are good for more than just fun, as one 21-year old from Azerbaijan used his experience playing Football Manager as a way to win a job doing the real thing.

Vugar Huseynzade of Azerbaijan recent earned the title of manager of the Azerbaijani Premier League club FK Baku’s reserve team.  He was originally hired by the team in February of this year as an advisor, but his performance and knowledge gained from using FK Baku on Football Manager was good enough to get him promoted.  Prior to his position with FK Baku, Huseynzade worked for a U.S.-based sports agency.  He also has a degree in business management from Boston University.

FK Baku’s reserve team has been without an actual coach for two years since their previous manager left.  The club decided to hand the reigns over to Huseynzade after exhibiting great knowledge of the sport, despite his lack of real-world experience.  It should be interesting to see if Huseynzade can work some magic on the team with all of his skills gained from playing Football Manager.
