GTA4 designer releases second future plot-centered game prototype: Last of the Patriots II - Image 1

A press announcement from Paul Davis heralded the second installment to the Last of the Patriots series, and like its predecessor, Last of the Patriots II is available free of charge. The level designer behind GTA: San Andreas and the two Manhunt games, plus Grand Theft Auto IV, is using the fact that LotP is free in order to promote games of deeper, more involving plots against just graphics and the inclusion of popular intellectual property.

The sci-fi adventure, action video game took players to a distant future where a powerful military entity known as the Space Corps took to the stars and came to possess 24 various territories across known space.

But not satisfied with their wealth, the Space Corps continued to seek new territories to conquer. They sent out scout ships to explore previously untouched planets, though one scout ship disappeared when visiting one desert planet. Two decades after, ex-Space Corps marine Zeke Johnson - the game's protagonist - rejoins the military and finds himself assigned to investigate the mysteries behind the ship's disappearance.

Last of the Patriots, the first in the series, was released sometime after the level designer left Rockstar Games under a haze of discontent with the industry's general direction. Davis claims that part of LotP's plot was an analogous interpretation of his feelings while as a designer at Rockstar, as well as during those moments shortly after leaving the studio.

Inside the game, emotions of meaningless pursuits, seeking purpose in a psychological, mental, and physical hell are plentiful.

Last of the Patriots 2 takes a deeper dive into the mind of Zeke while continuing to attack the industry's push for great graphics by using a Commodore 64-ish visual feel. The game's appeal rests only in the gameplay and story, thus becoming one of many independently produced and released games that crusade against the mainstream.

More from Paul Davis as we get them. Feel free to sample the series for yourself by visiting the author's website through the link provided below.
