GOTY 2000: Diablo on Game Boy |

Remember Diablo II? It was kind of a big deal, and its sequel just launched this year. As it turns out, however, Blizzard briefly visited the idea of making another Diablo title on a very different platform: Nintendo’s Game Boy.

According to a post on ShackNews, Blizzard split into two teams after the release of Diablo II. One worked on the Lord of Destruction expansion, and the other went into brainstorm mode. Also, a couple of developers worked on other ideas, one of which was titled Diablo Junior.
Diablo Junior would have come out for Game Boy Color or Game Boy Advance, based on market share. Check it:
“Diablo Junior was intended as a single-player-only prequel to the original game. Taking a page from Pokémon's book, the team wanted to release three cartridges, each packing a different hero in the warrior-rogue-sorcerer vein as well as items that players would have to trade for in order to collect. Heroes started in a unique town before heading into dungeons and wilderness zones. Diablo Junior was ultimately put out to pasture (absent of cow levels, I'm sure) because of the steep production costs associated with developing handheld games.”
Of course, it never happened. But we can always dream, right?
