Gaming PC Tablet Heading Your Way

I've never owned a tablet. It's not that I've never wanted one, but like most people it's just a case of having other things to spend the money on once you saved up enough for it. They've felt a bit niche to me, seeming to be more of a 'jack of all trades, king of none'.

Well Razer have grabbed my opinions and beat them into the floor with their new 'Project Fiona'. And like Princess Fiona, under that pretty face is a beast, as the tablet is in fact a gaming PC. Well, gaming tablet.

At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas today, Razer debuted their proof-of-concept design and gave a little talk on their goals.

Min-Liang Tan says that PC gaming on a tablet is impossible (he forgot to add 'until now'), but with Project Fiona it's finally possible, mainly due to the design and controls tailored just for gaming.

Full specs are still a secret, but it will have the latest gen of Intel Core i7 processors which gives quite a standard for the rest of the specs to live up to. And due to it being essentially a PC, it will support PC games right out of the box. Integrated force feedback, THX-certified Dolby home theatre sound, multi-touch screen and all the other things you want make this a little dreamboat.

I'm not too sure how it will work as far as keyboard and mouse are concerned, as PC gamers (their main target audience I'm assuming, no matter what anyone says) stand by their mouse like...a PC gamer and their mouse.

As a proof of concept, things will change, but before the end of the year, this thing will hit for apparently less than $1000. With Windows 8 on there too.

This is something I'm actually excited to see, as although I probably wont get it (could build a killer PC with that, or get a Vita and put my fingers/$800 in my ears shouting 'Lalalala I can't hear you'), I am intrigued to see how well it will be received. Should it take off, this could indicate one of biggest and (hopefully) least gimmicky moves in gaming in recent years.
