Game of Thrones RPG Coming in 2012 |

I’ve never read “Game of Thrones,” nor have I watched the HBO series. All I know about the franchise is that it takes place during a medieval times and the television show completely wrecked the Emmys (nominations, at least). However, if you are a fan of “Game of Thrones,” it looks like your day just got a little better.

Cyanide Studio, the company behind the RTS “Game of Thrones: Genesis,” has confirmed to Kotaku that they have plans for a “Game of Thrones” RPG in the works. It makes sense when you think about it – fantasy, medieval worlds are essentially the base environment for most RPGs, so plugging a bit of “Game of Thrones” lore into an already-functioning formula for RPG success isn’t much of a stretch.
Director Yves Bordeleau likens the game to “Mass Effect,” mentions only a PC release, and intimates that the plot operates to the side of the main plot in the first book. The story swaps between two characters and runs parallel to the HBO series’ first season, so even if you’re only a fan of the show you should have a fairly easy time jumping in.
Perhaps the coolest news for fans is the announcement that some of the HBO series actors will provide voices for recognizable characters; sadly, there’s no confirmation on who will be participating. The combat system is based in part on the active-pause menu from ‘Knights of the Old Republic,” with Cyanide giving heavy reference to Bioware’s previous work.
The untitled “Game of Thrones” RPG is slated for 2012 – will you be picking it up, or is this a classic example of franchise overload?
