Gabe Newell: It's up to Valve to bring back EA |

Gabe Newell recently spoke with Develop recently about the fight between EA and Steam. The first major sign of the divide between the companies was the recent announcement of Battlefield 3 not being released on Steam and the announcement of a little something called Origin.
Newell gave gamers the benefit of the doubt with a respect to them rather than Steam's strong current and financial model. "I don't think Valve can pick just one thing and think the issue would go away if we fixed that...[Valve] have to show EA it's a smart decision to have EA games on Steam, and we're going to try to show them that." Game companies have to "earn the right" to install their content on their customer's PCs, Newell explained. No truer words have been spoken about the possible issues of DRM.
Respect to those whom are paying you, does however work both ways with Newell adding, "The same thing is true of Steam. We have to prove we are creating value on an ongoing basis, whether it's to EA or Ubisoft or whoever."
Newell still has respect for the publisher and wasn't pulling anything dirty. "We want EA's games on Steam and we have to show them that's a smart thing to do," he said. "I think at the end of the day we're going to prove to Electronic Arts they have happier customers, a higher quality service, and will make more money if they have their titles on Steam” Whilst there have been a lot of problems with DLC and the launch of EA's Origin, Gabe Newell says it's “a complicated set of issues”, which I'm guessing is either money or someone called someone else's mumma fat.
Whilst the release of Origin in a few months will show what it's gonna be really like with an EA based content delivery system and whilst I've heard things from friends about their other systems such as The Sims online store and Ubisoft's Ubishop, I'd prefer sticking with Steam over anyone else, guess it's just loyalty, pricing, support, creativity and comfort more than anything else...nothing too big.
