Free CryEngine 3 SDK hits 100K downloads

So remember when Cyrtek made the CryEngine 3 SKU free just last week? Well, people bit it hook, line and sinker, if the download numbers are any indication.

The CryDev website reflects that CryEngine 3 has been downloaded so 104,623 times so far. With this much people downloading the free SDK, we should be seeing much more independent games being developed. After all, that's the whole point of this exercise.

Said Crytek, "We want you to make games with CryEngine 3 that people will want to play. We hope that your work will lead to a product you can commercialize. If this is the case, before you can sell your work or your game, you must seek a development license for CryEngine 3."

Rumors have also been persistent in claiming that CryEngine 3 will be heading to the Xbox 720 when the console comes out. The very existence of the 720 is still just a rumor itself.

I sure downloaded it, Crytek gave us a awesome engine its especially helpful to a person like me who is majoring in Computer programming but practices game design/programming on the side with little to no money to my name. its also a good move on their part as the more people who download and use it will increase the possible pool of cryengine capable devs out there.

This is awesome news. With that many downloads the possibilities of self learning are high. Not to mention all the downloads from people who actually know what they're doing.
