Final Fantasy lovers around the globe rejoiced when they heard that Final Fantasy VII, one of the most beloved games in the vast Final Fantasy catalogue, would be making its way to PC. Unfortunately for those fans, it appears that the initial launch of the game seems to have taken a turn for the worse, and has been temporarily aborted as a result.

Here’s the scoop: Square Enix released Final Fantasy VII PC on Saturday morning, where it was quickly snapped up by legions of excited gamers. However, the game’s SecuROM DRM system seems to be having trouble authenticating the game, making it completely inaccessible. Wait—DRM blocking legitimate players? Impossible!

Square Enix has since removed the purchase links from its online store, effectively dropping Final Fantasy VII back off the market until it can sort out exactly what went wrong. In fact, we’re not even sure Square Enix meant to release the game, since they’ve never given it an official launch date.

We’ll keep you updated as details roll out. For now, you’ll just have to stick with your beaten up copy of the original game.
