ESRB ratings-bots come to life this week |

As you may all know by now, the US ratings board, ESRB, has come up with a system that should expedite their process of rating games, particularly the digital downloads.
To deal with the problem of games coming in droves for ratings for the App Store, Android Marketplace, XBL Marketplace, PlayStation Store and WiiWare, they deviced a scheme that would allow computers to do the ratings for them. In an effort to minimize effort while maintaining effectivity, games for these platforms will be rated according to a very detailed questionnaire to be answered by the publisher.
Applicants are required to divulge every thing about the game, or else suffer a fine if the board discovers that they weren't very forthcoming about their answers. Explained ESRB spokesperson Patricia Vance, "If you look at what we have constructed here, it's scalable to address whatever volume you want. It's low cost and it is very effective. I think there is no question that mobile devices are a very important part of the pie."
Of course, some people have been wary about the system, mostly because computers are going to be very black and white in their assessment of the game's content. But if all goes well, and we shall soon see as soon as the system goes live this week, we just might see this adopted for full retail games as well. Besides, it's not like they're actually playing the whole games in the current system they have.
