Epic: We've neglected the Unreal franchise |
Listed in: News Tags: Epic Games, unreal

Back before they became known as the studio who makes Gears of War games, Epic Games made a series of shooters with the Unreal brand on them. Lately, it seems the series that put Epic on the map and ended up giving birth to the studio's popular middleware engine that shares the same name has been largely forgotten. The last entry in the series was 2008's Unreal Tournament III for Xbox 360. The PS3 version had been released a year before.
A follow-up may not be too far off in the future, however, if comments from Epic boss Mike Capps are any indication. In an interview with Industry Gamers, Capps admitted that work on the Gears of War series has affected the Unreal franchise, but emphasized that the latter still has a very big place in their hearts.
"We have a couple other major franchises that we've not been paying attention to," he said. "It's been a long time since we shipped an Unreal game, and it's an awfully loved franchise that we hold pretty dear here. We haven't been giving it the attention it deserves because we've been focusing on Gears of War and we're still a relatively small company."
While its not an outright confirmation of a new Unreal game, it should act as a ray of hope for hardcore fans of the series. Epic is currently focusing on new properties but Capps says that "sometimes I think just as a businessman that maybe we should be spending some more time with our existing franchises."
Epic is currently working on Gears of War 3, the much-awaited final chapter of the series' current arc.

Make it on PS3 and offer M/KB support.

Unless they somebody figures how to port it right (which I'm doubting it could be very difficult), it will suck because they will try to gear it towards both pc/console. They are just two different caliber platforms.
Console = accessability, costs: graphics/gameplay/quality; gains: anyone can pick it up and play. See Crysis 2, UT3
PC = modern hardware, costs: $ for hardware, not everyone can afford it; gains: better graphics/larger levels/more dynamic gameplay/potentially higher quality game. See Crysis (1), UT04, UT99 (depending on what year your looking at)
