For those who have been waiting to take a crack at id Software's Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, this is your chance to do so. The public beta is imminent and they have announced the necessary information that you will need to participate in it on the community site.First up, players have to realize that this is a beta test. It will be used to test the system they will be using and the game itself. Their announcement specifically stated that they will be collecting some data on your hardware configuration as you play to see what is exactly happening. It was also mentioned that people who just want to play a game for free "may find it a frustrating experience," since this is not the finished product.
That said, the guys at id Software are opening up 60,000 slots for the open beta of the game. To get one of the slots, simply mosey over to FilePlanet to download the client and get a license code. You should remember though that a fixed number of beta slots have been reserved for FilePlanet subscribers, while the rest of the slots will then go to those with free FilePlanet accounts. When the event starts, participants will be sent their own unique license code that is required for play.
The official start date for the public beta has not yet been announced, though it is expected to start "in the near future." More details of the beta will be announced in the future so be sure to keep checking back here for more updates on Enemy Territiory: Quake Wars.
