Elite: Dangerous Devs Drops a Bunch of Staff |

Frontier, if you’re unaware, is the company behind Elite: Dangerous. The space-based title is still cruising through its Kickstarter fundraising campaign, with around £781,251 of its £1,250,000 officially banked. Unfortunately for the folks that work there, the promise of new funds from Kickstarter wasn’t enough to keep everyone on staff.

Frontier has confirmed that it has laid off 14 people for “redundancy,” with the majority of layoffs (nine) coming from the studio’s art department. Of course, Frontier contends the future of the company is still strong (they’ve still got around 219 staffers), and that it timed these layoffs to make things as easy as possible on those affected:
“Once we took the decision to make the roles redundant, we felt it was better that the affected people knew ASAP so they can plan any further expenditure over the Christmas period accordingly and focus on their search for new roles as soon as possible. We have provided redundancy arrangements in excess of the minimum.”
I’m sure those folks without jobs over the holidays are happy for the consideration.
