EA Gives Go Ahead On Fan Made Game

Ó

Remember a few years back, when Square Enix put a red light on the fan made Chrono Trigger sequel?

Well surprisingly, EA are in the same position but aren't taking the same actions. A fan made sequel to Wing Commander is under way, and EA are more than aware of it. They say that they are simply not endorsing the game, but things are still under way and they aren't going to be putting a stop to the project.

The developers behind Wing Commander Saga: Darkest Dawn posted on their website a little ‘clarification’, stating that they’re ‘permitted’ and ‘allowed’ to make their game.

It’s nice to see, as I thought that EA would be just as strong-armed as Square Enix in hammering out any slightly popular fan-made titles based around their works, especially given the popularity of indie titles today.

What’s your views on EA’s relatively benign reaction to this?

I'm impressed with EA's decision. I've seen many fan made games get shut down because the big companies don't feel comfortable with them. This is a refreshing change.

I got to say that is cool. Although they wont endorse his project its great that they aren't going to sue him or shut him down. Thats a great thing, i mean who knows maybe if its good enough they will buy it from him.

This game series is pretty old, which kind of explains why they let this go.

Now fans can make a Mass Effect 3 with a real ending.

I'd like to see what EA would say if they did that.
