Don't Gamble with Counter-Strike |

Do you think your life is worth seven dollars? Well, apparently someone in Manila was not so lucky over the weekend when it came to a bet placed on the Valve title, Counter-Strike.

Police in Manila have arrested a suspect whom they believe was responsible for killing a man following an argument over a round of Counter-Strike. The two men and several witnesses were playing the FPS title in one of their local internet cafe's. A $7 bet (or 300 peso) was placed on the outcome of a match and when it came to pay up, the losing team did not reciprocate.
Eric Cristobal, one of the losing players, was followed home and then was stabbed to death. Authorities say Cristobal "did not start the quarrel. He just got caught up in it. But they all had long been betting on Counter-Strike." The story is a tragedy and the only difference between this and every other murder story was the discussion prior to the action taking place. I hope Manila police forces and the Filipino media don't jump on the band wagon of just blaming video games.
