PC gamers have gone up in arms about Infinity Ward's decision to cut dedicated servers from Modern Warfare 2. Petitions have edged close to 90K signatures mark, but it doesn't seem like that's going to change anything soon. Dedicated servers won't be coming back, but they do have something to take its place.

Speaking on the BashandSlash podcast, IW's Robert Bowling announced that in lieu of dedicated servers, they will be releasing a new matchmaking service called IWNet. The new service will reportedly give the devs "a lot more control and structure".

"It's definitely going to be a change," said Bowling. "It's going to be a very different setup than what we're previously used to in the Call of Duty franchise for the PC. In the long term it's going to help the community. It changes the way and how we're able to update and support the PC version."

As for mods and custom maps, Bowling conceded that he's not sure if IWNet would eliminate those as well.

The answer why they aren't being listened too.

pc gaming is dead. A shame?.. yep! but dead all the same.

PC gaming isn't dead.. Consoles are just main stream now. If it wasn't for PC gaming, games like the COD series wouldn't exist.

Removing dedicated servers will do nothing but bring down the clan/squad communities, the very communities that made games like the COD franchise successful!

IW match making service mean IW servers and as we know Servers cost money so IW will ask money like M$ do right now in XBOX live , also IW can not have servers in alot of countries with many players hardcore players so they will face the curse of ping ,

so :

1 - payable online play (100% will be payable trust me )

2 - bad ping for many players

3 - no mods

4 - no clans mods

all this sell us a over product in the product pls guys cancel your PC orders and they will get back Dedicated servers as idid .

no dedicated servers mean :

1 - no custum servers for clans

2 - no mods

3 - no zobmies ...

4 - no creativity

5 - no fun

" Just cancel your orders and blow up their release and trust me youll have your dedicated servers "

» Dead?

Lol no. Far from it.

Games like this damage us, but we are strong.

Using Wow's figures as an example, some 11 million odd i last heard. That's just players in WoW. How many PC gamers play WoW? Not alot. Ergo there are ALOT of PC gamers out there and thus PC gaming is FAR from dead.

» Hmm..

Yes, cancel your pre-orders. show them that supporting the PC version (Which, if you believe them, almost half of the current PC MW fanbase is using an illegal copy.) is definitely not worth their time. It will still sell. I've seen shops with almost 60+ preorders a piece for /both/ consoles.

They are going to get whatever costs the put into this game back, and then some. Alienating yourself as a marketshare does not constitute getting something you want. it just means they can save money by not caring about non-existent customers.

tl;dr People will pirate it half a day after release, anyway, and probably have server mods two days later. Half the people complaining werent going to buy it to begin with. thats why they wanted private servers so much.
