Beachhead Studios, one of the teams Activision has put to work on the next Call of Duty game, had a big bombshell for PC gamers at this year's Gamescom. According to Beachhead's Noah Heller, dedicated servers are coming back for Modern Warfare 3.
"The big announcement today is that we're supporting dedicated servers for PC, which is really cool," he told gaming news site Eurogamer. Cool indeed, especially since not a few PC gamers had reacted negatively to the news that Infinity Ward was cutting out dedicated servers from Modern Warfare 2.
Heller also revealed a few more details on Activision's Call of Duty Elite service. Aside from website, tablet, and mobile versions of the service, console gamers will get an app that they can run right on their PS3 or Xbox 360.
"We're also doing a console app," he said. "So right there on PS3 and 360 you can jump out of the game into the app and communicate with your clan or do whatever you need to do before running back into the game."
The Call of Duty Elite service will officially go live alongside Modern Warfare 3 this November. Aside from the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC versions, Treyarch is also bringing Modern Warfare 3 to the Nintendo Wii console.
