Relic Entertainment's Company of Heroes will be the first game to support Microsoft's DirectX 10. You're probably wondering how this is possible considering it was released September 14 last year and with the expansion Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts already set to come out? Well, the developers released a patch which enables the game to take advantage of it.Global Director of Games for Windows at Microsoft Kevin Unangst spoke about this move by the developers and publisher saying that "Company of Heroes took the RTS genre to an entirely new level. By delivering full support of DirectX 10, THQ and Relic Entertainment continue their tradition of innovation and leadership in PC gaming."
The said patch is reported to include significant improvements to model and map details, lighting, shadows, and overall image quality of the game. If these innovations show off the true potential of DirectX 10, then it will definitely create a stir in the gaming industry. Especially now that gamers and developers will be seeing it implemented in a full game.
That said, we haven't seen if the patch really makes a noticeable difference in the graphics of the game, but we are a bit curious regarding how much impact a patch enabling DirectX 10 can really have in it. Be sure to keep checking back here for more updates on Company of Heroes.
