Codemasters: Operation Flashpoint: Red River is a 'thinking man's game' |
Listed in: News Tags: Codemasters, operation flashpoint: red river
At first glance, gameplay footage of Codemasters' upcoming shooter, Operation Flashpoint: Red River places it squarely in the realm of your typical first-person shooter. According to principal games designer Time Browne, however, Red River is a tactical shooter, and as such, requires a bit more thinking and strategizing on the gamers' part.
"You know, you’ve got your run n’ gun shooters and they’ve been done to death," Browne told GameFront during a video interview at this year's Game Developers Conference. "People are getting tired of those games. They want something that tests the gray matter so that’s why we’re calling it a tactical shooter. It's more of a thinking man's game."
Browne also revealed that while they've given the core mechanics a sheen of authenticity (one bullet can kill you), they've also taken a certain amount of creative license to make the game fun and accessible. You can check out more from Browne in the video interview below.
Operation Flashpoint: Red River lands on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on April 21, 2011, in Europe and on April 26, 2011, in North America.
