Dev studio Firaxis has finally released the delayed update for Civilization V in preparation for the launch of the game's Polynesia DLC later this week. The update, which patches Civilization V up to version 1.0.1.217, brings some improvements to the game's engine and user interface as well as a few important balance and bug fixes.

The patch (see the patch notes here) will ready both the game and players for Thursday's Polynesia DLC. The downloadable content pack will introduce a new civilitation -- Polynesia, led by Kamehameha I of Hawaii -- as well as the new Maori Warrior unique unit and the unique Moai improvement. There's also a new Polynesia-related scenario called "Paradise Lost".
In addition, PC gamers will also get a new Civilization V multiplayer map pack that contains a one-on-one skirmish map called "Ring" and an inland sea map called "Ancient Lake" this Thursday.
The Polynesia DLC will be available to PC gamers for US$ 5. The multiplayer map pack will be a free download.

Also, AI needs tuning up, and the turn times from that last patch helped nicely. Huge games don't take days now. And I'm running 3.02GHz 4 core 8 threads i7!!
