The RTS genre has been dominating the PC market for ages and has become one of the most beloved gameplay types for those that prefer to operate from the computer. From games like Age of Empires and Rise of Nations, we were introduced to mechanics that have become tried and true throughout the industry. In that sense then, there is at least a little bit of concern that not much new ground can be broken for this type of experience. However, indie developers Turtle Sandbox Games choose to challenge that  notion with their animation spectacle known as Cannon Brawl.

In what looks like a mix between AoE and the ever popular Worms series, Cannon Brawl dares to challenge the way we think about the RTS by changing the way that it is presented. Instead of giving us lifelike models of knights and soldiers, we're now greeted to something that looks to pack the same amount of action into a more cartoon-fitted package. While civilized war is a bloody and dangerous notion, this indie team believes they can tap into a segment of gaming that has yet to have been touched.

While the animation sets it apart however, it terms of gameplay Cannon Brawl seems to stick to the common formula. Players begin the game by setting outposts that dictate their parcel of land, and then users  build and battle to their heart's content while making sure their own force doesn't fall beneath the force of an opponent. It can get hectic trying to battle on the title's 20 multiplayer maps, but the true reward lies in the conquer. Not much else is known about this game, but it is planned to launch on Xbox or PC sometime in the future. From this vantage point, Cannon Brawl looks like it could be another epic win for the independent gaming sector!
