Bohemia Devs Still in Jail

Ó

Remember that time last month when Ivan Buchta and Martin Pezlar, two devs from Bohemia Interactive, were arrested in Greece for espionage? The arrests occurred on September 9, and even though most of us seem to have moved on with our lives, those two dudes are still sitting in jail.

BOH2

The evidence against the men? Stills from a video clip that happens to brush over a military airport in Limnos. Here’s the quote from their lawyer on that one:

“The “incriminating” piece of evidence is 14 stills, taken from a video clip recorded with a handheld camera. Amongst these images a depiction of the Limnos airport which is also used by the military. But it's clear that the cameraman stops the recording once he noticed the signs informing that photography is prohibited.”

There’s a bunch of political conspiracy stuff floating around, but the bottom line is that it looks like two guys were arrested in Greece for acting like tourists, and have now been in jail for over a month. This is partly thanks to Greece’s rough economy, which has led public workers (like those in the legal system) to strike in the face of austerity measures.

You can learn more (and offer your support) here. We just wanted to remind everyone that this was still happening.

My understanding is most countries do not allow unauthorized filming and photography of military bases/airports with out permission. They should have known that there would be a good chance of getting in trouble with the law for not asking permission first. What happened to them is sad but they chose to risk there freedom for some photographs of the military airport with out permission. How was Greece suppose to know they were not spies, simple they couldn't cause they chose not to talk to the authorities and get permission. Most likely these guys new the government of Greece would never allow them to take the pictures. If indeed they would never have been given permission, then they new they were breaking the law from the beginning of this whole journey.
