Blizzard has decided to really go ahead with Social Gaming. With Activision/Blizzard really pushing the beginnings of creating a social gaming experience with Call of Duty Elite and Diablo 3 will not be too dissimilar in it's marketing. The work of Blizzard has come to the point where Facebook is where the fanbase is and if you like their page, you will get a chance to get a beta key for their upcoming game.
Whilst I'm not a fan of the series, I do know it's place in gaming history as the spawn of many clones that take a lot of the similar gameplay elements and sometimes throw them into a different genre. Diablo 3 may be quite good but what does it mean for social gaming?
Social gaming has been a great topic for recent game makers and social media experts alike. The history of games and social media is incredibly short. It kinda begins and ends with Zynga and everything else after that are all different companies now jumping on what looks like a band wagon but really it's a money train that seems to be going quickly nowhere and have nothing new in sight.
I'm really hoping for more ARG integrated stuff. Having someone planning a day off to go on a real life fetch quest to a store or some part of a Google-Mapped town to get some points, maybe some bonus cool stuff that could be sent to you and it'd be incredibly awesome. Please tell me someone is working on this, other than the guys doing Run Zombie Run.
