Interplay has decided to go ahead and resurrect Black Isle Studios, the creative force behind Fallout, Baldur's Gate, and Planescape: Torment. They have big plans for the studio, too. 

"Black Isle Studios returns to game publishing and is inviting the best talent to joins its team to bring to market new AAA innovative RPGs based on Interplay's critically-acclaimed intellectual properties,"said Herve Caen, Interplay CEO.

"It really feels like getting the band back together, as we're seeing opportunities not available to us before. Given our unique position, expanding online and mobile platforms, and renewed interest in our proven properties, I see an incredible success potential for Black Isle Studios."

However, former lead designer at Black Isle Chris Avellone doesn't know what the hell Interplay's on about. "No idea what it's about," Avellone told EG. "I wasn't aware anything beyond the name was left at Interplay."

Interplay founder Brian Fargo chimed in on Twitter as well, tweeting, "I just read that Interplay is bringing back Black Isle. Hmmm... Not enough info for me to comment."

Who knows what Black Isle will be working on, but we know for one thing it won't be a Fallout MMO, as that belongs firmly in the Bethesda camp as of last year. What do you think Black Isle should be working on?
