BioWare Explains Random Old Republic Bans |

Star Wars: The Old Republic is a popular game, and players are getting quite angry at being ‘randomly’ banned.
‘Randomly’ is a bit harsh, considering the players were visiting a planet, Ilum, and looting containers there, but the real reason is a bit deeper.

Long story short, the planet Ilum is only advised for players of a certain level, though you can go at an earlier level. But the containers, however, are only meant for the higher level players, and opening them can cause a warning or temporary suspension, but not a ban. The bans were handed out for gold mining, says The Old Republic community manager Stephen Reid, who claims that use of exploits, including opening the containers, could result in damaging the in game economy. Apparently accounts were used to take advantage of exploits to ‘maximize their credits’ and then sell them to other players.
Why people would bother potentially jeopardizing their online experience of an online game which they paid for is beyond me, but I guess that adds to the allure of ‘breaking the system’ and ending up on top of the virtual economy.
Have you encountered anything like this when playing the game?

Devs can patch it out, but they should suspend players for spotting a weakness in their design.
