Bethesda Offers PC Performance Tips for Rage

It wasn’t but a few hours after yesterday’s launch of “Rage” that reports started to trickle in about problems with the PC version of the game. Screen tearing, missing textures and a variety of other problems were reported by users of both Nvidia and AMD graphics cards, and Bethesda worked to remedy the situation by advising people to update their drivers and eventually released an updated set specifically for “Rage.”

While this seems to have solved a large number of the issues being reported, Bethesda is still working with the PC gaming populace and has posted a list of troubleshooting techniques for those users still experiencing problems after updating to the new drivers.

The list is pretty in-depth and I imagine will be continually updated as Bethesda targets and resolves issues as they are reported by gamers. It’s unfortunate to see such a well-reviewed game experience this much difficulty at launch, as there’s no telling how many players may have simply given up and moved on to other titles.

Unfortunately for casual PC gamers like myself, the solutions currently offered by Bethesda involve modifying settings that aren’t necessarily represented in the game’s built-in menus.

For example:

“The user can force V-sync on or off in the graphics vendor control panel. Right-click on the desktop to access the graphics vendor control panel.

If V-sync is forced on then RAGE will always V-sync.If V-sync is forced off then RAGE will auto-detect that V-sync is not working and RAGE will instead synchronize to real-time and screen tearing may occur.

Alternatively you can force V-sync on by adding the following to the RAGE launch options in Steam: +r_swapInterval 1”

I’m sure that paragraph means something to some PC gamers, but it looks like a bunch of gibberish to me. I guess less tech-savvy players will just need to wait until an official fix is patched into the game, which I’m sure won’t take too long considering the sheer volume of the complaints.

Are you experiencing any issues with “Rage?” How did you fix them?

I was just thinking the exact same thing myself. Even if the games are not as good as the PC, at least there's no compatibilty issues!

Lol.

I was thinking that exact same thought, albeit for a different reason, while I was cleaning up the mess Bioshock left on my computer.
And thats also why I haven't played Bioshock2 yet.

I'd rather just get that on a console then screw up my computer with all hoops and requirements it jumps you through.

My only regret will be that I much prefer a mouse for FPS's.

Not sure if you guys are trolling or just used to shitty games on consoles. But this is unacceptable for pc and consoles. the textures still pop on console! and there isnt anything you can do about it. pc users can. your not gaming if you use consoles lmao!

I wasn't trolling. I recognise games are usually better on a PC but their are advantages on consoles. Yes, there's pop-up and what-not, but issues like that & fps issues can be fixed much easier on consoles (and they have to be because the developers know that EVERY console owner will have that same issue!)

And you can still play an FPS game on a console with keyboard & mouse using a special adaptor :)

Personally, it's the controller and the couch that sell me on console games. I don't like hunching over a keyboard, though I will for certain PC exclusives.
