Copyright is a bitch, even for creative people. Those who have the love, time and energy to watch a show...with over 10 hours worth of material and get completely into a story, characters and have people end up screwing you over in the end...which is why these Battlestar Galactica Mods for Nexus and Freespace have been removed from ModDB
ModDB is a large database of awesome free mods that people can download, play and be absolutely cool with making their own game...with someone elseé tools. NBC Universal heard about this and threw their hands up in the air and got their bored lawyers on the phone and decided to send a lovely little cease and desist notice to the creators of Nexus: BSG. The mod is free but was considered libel to NBC Universal and ModDB acted the only way they could and removed hosting the mod on the site...but that's not all. Almost anythign with the BSG title was also removed, a total of 19 mods apparently infringed on their copyrights
You think if NBCU really cared about their work and copyright they'd bring the show back...I was shocked and saddened when I got the message from ModDB admins that our mod, the Nexus BSG mod is being pulled due to copyright claims of NBC Universal”, said the lead dev for Nexus BSG, “this we cannot fight, these are the terms of ModDB, and we are making our projects based on NBCU's intellectual property”
According to Kotaku, the creators of another mod, BSG: Diaspora, using the Freespace 2 engine were equally angered by the removal of their work from ModDB and promised that development of the free game would continue elsewhere.
