Battlefield devs: "Our competitors are getting lazy" |

DICE have accused its nearest rivals of just recycling their old aged FPS formula and says its only a matter of time before they will take out the FPS crown.

Speaking in the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine, DICE general manager, Karl-Magnus Troedsson said:
"Our competitors are getting lazy. They're using the same engine, the same recipe for building a game. At some point you need to take that leap. I haven't seen them take that leap since a long time ago.
"We are doing that now. They had better watch out. We are coming for them," he added.
DICE is currently working on another installment of their first-person shooter series, Battlefield 3, which they say can handle 256-players at once, ala MAG, but they opted not to and settled for 64 because it was "not fun."
“A lot of people ask us about 64 versus 128 or 256 players. Technically, we can go to 256, we’ve tried it. We play tested with 128. You’ve got to make a game that’s fun to play. And, arguably, we think that the most fun you can have is when it’s between 32 and 40 players,” says DICE CEO Patrick Söderlund in a recent interview with AtomicMPC.
“And we’ve done substantial research into this and tested 128 and that it’s not fun. Maybe we haven’t done our design work good enough, but we just feel like there’s no point in going higher than 64.”
Battlefield 3 is slated to arrive later this year for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

I gotta agree with EA, no one else is taking that "leap" they are talking about. Since i've seen the gameplay trailer for BFBC3, they have stepped it up alot from BFBC2. Graphics wise and interaction wise. I just can't wait for this game to come out!

Why would you not just leave the option open for the players to decide if they want to play with 128 or 256? I will tell you why. Because YOU CAN'T MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Quick example.
BF:BC > BF:BC2 > MoH
last time I checked those three games are just about the same with the only real difference being that you added a couple of new vehicles in each and then removed them in MoH.
But seriously pat yourselves on the back, dice. I mean churning out the same product repeatedly is the hallmark of being owned by EA, AMIRITE?!

Multiplayer is all based around being fair to the little guy and in no way is balanced for experienced players. They say they took out noob toobers yet that noob that's 4 in 20 always manages to ruin ur killstreak with his lucky camp toob, right?
Can a lvl 10 beat a lvl 50 in black ops? FUCK NO, even if its not 1 on 1 his OP will rack him the most kills doubling your struggle through the match. If you look at mwf2 being a create my first class noob i pick the M4 and low and behold I went up 3-5 levels in one match competing and making a challenge for your 10th lvl70 dick, anyone follow this logic? Fairness for all not neo?
So what if your k/d sucked your first prestige you learned to be good like the rest not learned to follow activision's idea of following their addictive camper 20 in 0.
In the past cod if someone was noob toobing with one man army wasn't it such a feat to fuck him up and still double his score?
They scrapped every idea from the table and hired and laid off a new team every week because they thought it'd be everything but it was just pure constant contradiction. There isn't a single thing balanced in that game.
I could handle quick scoping again, it was just the a*holes who put tape on their tv or hacked to get a corsair on their screen, maybe try a different hosting approach that has some kind of warden?
Remember Quick Scoping B****! Then he'd back out and go into his lonely hearts lobby? I could care less cuz I always got my shot in on him. Yeah lets all shoot our own feet when you get rushed and u cant switch to your pistol in time..

All Jason and Vince wanted was to take the game to the next level. Since they sold Id a year before, they lost their chances with Id tech 4 (FRIGGEN EPIC POTENTIAL, blame everyones crappy PCs cuz they're about 5-10years ahead of us.)
And maybe, just maybe the tech 5 which is like crystal friggen glass ball.
So with their next gen sold off and nothing to advance with what do you do, you say "HEY! You guys can go Fuck yourselfs we're creators not thieves, we're not using 10 year old shit anymore." I think IW's Id tech 3 engine was first released in the year 2000? Yep it was.
Can you blame them? Black ops wasn't a step forward graphically, AT ALL!
And if you have any other opinion on that all Trey did was make random buildings and some dumby who know's art not gaming says oh this will look nice over here. They're both don't correct me.

-er-ish anyone else like grainy graphics? I'm gloss fan of indepth 3d art turned flat to save your console, not shit drawn in wind xp paint converted to jpeg.
Really truth on that is that they added too much detail so everything had to be low grade, IW kept it simple, key eye attractors here and there and everything else is clean as a new bath tub.
You know all it would of took was a friendly encounter between Jason or Vince with Mr. John Remero at last year's Activion New Year's Party. Would of been a I'm your biggest fan, hand shake a crack at the release of Black Ops and brain blast! Then mw3 you'd see the IW logo pop up, fade, then Powered by Id Software blinding your eyes peering into a world we'll never see. That's what I think but w.e I can always dream.
I think I was a fan at age 5 barely being able to stand anymore from watching my father play Doom, how bout you?
(Yes I'd get a break with the cheats on every once and awhile.)
Yes Dice should be crying again. They are multiplayer but they never got the story and atmosphere until bad company which was just an endless parody.

Yes maybe on a £700 PC upwards, but for console owners on the XBOX 360 or PS3, it can not be any better than COD-MW1 graphics wise, as the machines wouldn't be able to handle it, now for me on consoles Battlefield Bad Company was excellent, but somehow BC2 i didn't like as much, probably the maps in that game, were way to big, sniper rifles are way too powerful, i am glad to see that the trailer shows in building's in this latest version BF3
