Battlefield 3's console versions will be scaled down |

Battlefield 3 developer DICE has some great news for PC fans. DICE is using PC as the lead platform for development of the game, which means that PC gamers will get the purest Battlefield 3 experience. The console versions will be scaled down, but that's not to say they'll be pale shadows of the PC version. According to DICE, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game will still be pretty damn "amazing".
"PC is the leading platform, conceptually, for this game, definitely. We are going to make this game on 360 and PlayStation 3 as well, [but] we need to scale it down to those platforms," said DICE boss Karl Magnus Troedsson in a recent interview with the print edition of PC Gamer.
"The PC players are going to love to hear that, but it's a fact," he continued. "The hardware specs on the console are limited. At the same time, for each iteration on these console platforms we can utilise the power of them better and better, so what we do on the other platforms is going to be amazing, and look much better on the PC too."
Aside from being the most advanced option for those who happen to have both consoles and a PC gaming rig, the PC version of Battlefield 3 will also have a few unique features. Troedsson declined to elaborate further but promised that it should be something "people are going to be very pleased about."
Battlefield 3 is currently slated for release later this year.
