You want to know what Battlefield 3 is made of? It's not just made of ass-kicking action, it's also made of ANT? No, that's not short for "America's Next Top (Model)". It's short for "Animation Toolkit", EA's internal tool that DICE is utilizing for the third iteration of the famed franchise.

Actually, this is the same technology that was used in the Madden and FIFA franchises. So, if you liked how those two turned out graphically, then you already know more or less what's going to be in store for you in Battlefield 3. The ANT is actually about eight years old, a lovechild between EA's programming divisions. Oh, another title that made use of the ANT -- Crysis 2

Said DICE lead animatore Tobias Dahl in an interview with GameInformer, "Quite naturally, I started looking into the sport games because what they have is animation -- that's what drive their games. And it looks pretty good, I'd say."

Meanwhile, Patrick Bach of EA DICE headed off to the GDC in San Francisco and took to the stage to announced the game's "lead platform." Their chosen one: the PC platform. DICE GM Karl-Magnus Troedsson also took to the stage to talk about what's important to DICE as a company.

"DICE stands for three core values," he said. "Quality, innovation, and fun or joy, whatever you want to call it. Whatever we do when it comes to games, or movies or anything having to do with our products -- we want quality. We always want to try to surpass what we did last time.

Innovation comes in many different forms, it can be specifically new features or new genres, but it is always something we feel strongly about. We want to continue to innovate in whatever we do. We can't just release another title year after year after year. We want to challenge ourselves to go further, and then beyond that."

It's going to have the most realistic demolition effects yet. Its an entirely new engine.Vehicles, advanced lighting, animations, demolition, and of course Battlefield's amazing multiplayer = This game is going to blow COD out of the water.
