Battlefield 3 campaign to be 12 hours long |

DICE has revealed that the campaign length of their upcoming first person shooter will be 12 hours long.

Speaking in an interview with Games.on.net (via Eurogamer), the firms General manager Karl Troedsson said that they want to include a single player campaign in the multiplayer-only series to attract new players in the game.
"Naturally we want to introduce more people to our franchise," he said. "A lot of people don't want to jump straight into multiplayer. They want to feel around a bit and they're ready to move over to online."
"The hardcore online people, they don't care, they're just straight in. Maybe they don't even touch the campaign. But we want to get more people in, invite more people into the franchise. That's one of the main reasons why we have this different part of the game."
The length of single player campaign was brought about because of THQ's recent shooter, Homefront, which received negative feedbacks from lots of gamers for its five-hour campaign. Battlefield 3 is slated to arrive on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in October.

Maybe ridiculous parachute jumps too!
12 hours long campaign on an FPS? That's practically unheard of! Can anyone think of anything as long on one game?

I was very upset by Homefront's terribly short "campaign" I don't even think it WAS 5 hours to be honest, felt more like 4.
I'd also like to see some developers perhaps give back a little of the split screen co-op of yesteryear as well. It was great being able to invite a friend over and play together in the same house on the same machine. You know, actual co-operative face time.
We LOVED Borderlands for just that reason.

I agree with you though. The modern FPS relies too much on multiplayer, and not enough on a real gameplay experience. The Halo series is a good example of a successful series that goes against that.
