Baldur’s Gate to Feature Paid DLC |

Overhaul Games is hard at work on its “new and improved” version of the original Baldur’s Gate. If you’re unfamiliar with the title (for shame), Baldur’s Gate is generally regarded as one of the best PC RPGs ever made, and its sequel (Baldur’s Gate 2) is the game that established BioWare as one of the more formidable developers in the genre.

But that was then, and this is now. The new Baldur’s Gate, titled Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, is being developed by a relatively small studio and distributed through Beamdog, a company owned by a BioWare co-founder. And, apparently, the game will feature more than just pretty graphics and smoother controls:
“We’ll be doing free feature improvements and existing content improvements as we go, but we are also planning some paid DLC.”
That’s Trent Oster, the dude in charge. But before you start freaking out, you should probably read the rest of his statement:
“We would never DLC existing content. Any DLC content we plan to sell will be all new. DLC = Downloadable Content, not furry earrings +3. The big guys have overcooked the term with badness. New BG storylines, New characters.”
So, perhaps it’s not all bad? Of course, it’s arguable that in the days before DLC, all of that extra stuff simply would have come with the Enhanced Edition remake.Fans can dream, right?
