Attention Linux Users! Steam for Linux is Now Live! |

Steam for Linux has been in beta for some time, but it looks like Valve finally felt as though things were ready to launch. As of last night, the Linux version of the Steam distribution software is live and fully functional. Oh, and to mark the occasion, Valve is offering sale prices on over 50 games—what better way to mark the arrival of Steam on your platform of choice than emptying your wallet?

Valve is becoming more openly supportive of Linux as of late, with harsh words for Windows 8 and plans to run its Steam Box home console/PC on the open platform. Based on recent trends and comments from the company, it looks like Valve is investing heavily in Linux projects.
Linux people are, of course happy. Here’s some guy from Ubuntu on the subject:
“The introduction of Steam to Ubuntu demonstrates growing demand for open systems from gamers and game developers. We expect a growing number of game developers to include Ubuntu among their target platforms. We’re looking forward to seeing AAA games developed with Ubuntu in mind as part of a multi-platform day and date release on Steam.”
Are you running Linux? Any plans to snag some Steam games?

"No one actually USES Linux, they just constantly play and mess with it."\
Both of us did indeed mess with it... Not worth all the crap to avoid buying Windows unless it's in the short term or for specific situations imho.

In my personal tests, A lot of my OpenGL-based (or SDL) games perform way better on my Core i5 notebook using Ubuntu 12.10, than Windows 7 (both fully updated)
Using WindowMaker as Window Manager, I can make the perform even better, since WindoMaker uses ~4MB or less RAM in my setup.
I'm trying to create a session in login manager GDM to open only Steam in Big Picture mode, once anyone logs in, if I get it done, then even that ~4 MB will be saved, and nearly all RAM and system resources will be availbe for the running game.
