Activision Talking Next-Gen at GDC |
Listed in: News Tags: Activision Blizzard, call of duty, GDC
Activision Blizzard is most known for publishing the Call Of Duty franchise, but this alone makes the development team one of the most successful outfits in the world. Given their commercial success, there's no denying that they've probably already git their hands on some early next-generation hardware. Lucky for all of us, we may get to see a little peek at what games of this caliber are going to look like at GDC.
If you haven't heard of GDC before, it is essentially what CES is for consumers, only this conference is designed more specifically for the people that make the games we love, and it takes place in March. Of course there will be tons of keynote speakers and demos on hand for the most brave groups to show off, but one of the more interesting of these is a showcase by Activision on Photorealistic Eyes Rendering and Deformation. Certainly the face is a huge part of what will make our next-gen games look better than the last. As you can see from the screenshot, there's quite an intense amount of detail to be had here. While this was the kind of stuff we only see in video sequences now, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw this in real-time games soon.

Other than focusing on the eyes, Activision's presentation also says that their address will focus on doing the best to bridge the gap between making games look realistic while keeping that good old virtual charm alive. After all, many in the industry have speculated that gaming will become less popular if it becomes too real, so there are certain measures that should be taken to prevent that. The CoD franchise in particular has been scoffed at for its aged graphics engine. In due time I think we'll be getting a new one!

CES is NOT for consumers. CES is about consumer products however, it's closed to business professionals only.
