Okay, just look at the video below. Don't read the rest of the article to until you press play on that little YouTube icon.
Now, you watched it right? How amazing was that? And how do you think it was made? How much do you think it costs on Steam?
First, the game was entirely coded in C++ and you can get that game free...right now! Go and download it. I'm serious. Just get it, play it, love the ever living hell out of it. It's a game where you play as a car who is essentially an anti-virus system in a digital world and you just drive...well not just drive, but you fly...and you flip and you drive upside down and you go absolutely crazy trying to keep on the track and flying to the next part of the game. You just need to play it, or keep watching the video again and again.
I spoke with Jordan Hemenway who has worked on the game and asked some questions about the game, it's music and everything else I could think of for Nitronic Rush.
QJ: To familiarize our readers with you, who are you and how long have you been working in the games industry?
JH: My name is Jordan Hemenway (aka Torcht) and I’m the audio director, sound designer, and lead composer on Team Nitronic. Over the past couple years I've worked on a few games that have gotten some industry recognition, but I'd say that I haven't been in the industry very long. In fact, as with many of the members on Team Nitronic I'm just now finishing up a degree at the DigiPen Institute of Technology.
QJ: The first thing I think almost everyone notices in the trailer is the music. It's thumping and just sets the mood so well. Who did the amazing music in the trailer?
JH: The song from the trailer was composed by myself and it's actually a song featured in several of the game's levels. The game features an adaptive music system that adds layers of music when the player boosts, jumps, flies, or overheats. As a preview for the upcoming soundtrack, we just released the extended mix of that song which includes these interactive layers (created by M.J. Quigley) as a part of the actual song. You can listen to and download the song from either Soundcloud or YouTube.
