It's honestly rare that I'll play a mod without some trusted word or I'll have to download or get it from someone to play at a LAN party. But when I heard of Elevator Source I thought it was a joke. Just something someone had made in their spare time and thought it'd be a funny mod to shove onto moddb and gain some notoriety. But I was incredibly wrong. It wasn't just a game about waiting in a lift or being boring such as the Desert Bus joke game. This was an elevator sim like no other.
The game sets you up in a lobby with a few humorous posters and advertisements and so your journey begins into the unknown. Why are you here? Where are you going? The most philosophical questions one could ask waiting - even for a lift. But the game is so much more than that when you get in the elevator. You are taken to a magical land of floors that correspond no rhyme or reason other than just a simple look and listen experience.
The game is developed by a group of guys at PixelTail Games who spent a good couple of weeks putting together the entire experience of Elevator Source. So being simply mesmerised by the game that was before me I had to ask a few questions about their game, their team and the development process they went through for Elevator Source.
QJ: Just so we can equate our readers with what you guys do, who are you and how long have you been making games?
PixelTail: We’re a group of friends who come from different backgrounds and have worked on games and mods for a long while. We all met each other in 2007, when creating our first project, GMod Tower.
QJ: There are a lot of levels in Elevator Source with heaps and heaps of things in them (No spoilers!, he said vaguely). But where did the inspiration for Elevator Source come from?
PT: The majority of the inspiration came from joking around. We first brought up the idea of having players wait in an elevator and how we could possibly make that fun... then we made it.
