Crytek talks Crysis modding with CryEngine 2 |
Ó
Crytek staffers had quite the lengthy interview with ObsidianEdge about modding Crysis using the successor CryEngine 2 engine and the Sandbox 2 editor. While modding something that has the graphical power displayed by Crysis sounds like a daunting task, more daunting was reading over the interview and looking for the high points. At least we can give one high point we can (more or less) understand: Sandbox 2.
Sandbox2 is way more powerful then its previous versions but the feature I really like the most is the Flowgraph. It allows all kinds of scripting in an easy to understand graphical interface. For example complete mission structures, over special unique AI tactics, simple triggers up to a light which turns red at 24.12.07 at 23:59. The combination of specific entity functionality with logic, mathematical and token nodes allow the level designer to work very flexible without special code support.
Feeling up to creating your own Crysis? The Crytek peeps tell ObsidianEdge that they plan on releasing the CryEngine 2 SDK to modders at the same time as Crysis' release (whenever that will be...). A ton of details that probably only modders will understand await at the Read link - but suffice to say from our end, if a modder can create something with the graphical and gaming power of Crysis, then sweet it is, indeed.

The only thing better than playing a game with a sweet engine is playing with the engine.
