SimCity Demands Always-On Internet |

If you’re like me, you’re probably waiting with baited breath for the next iteration in Maxis’ SimCity franchise, titled SimCity. The game, which is due in 2013, marks the first big title in the original series formula since 2003’s SimCity 4. Details are scarce so far (it’s still a ways from launch), but little tidbits have been making their way to the public since the game’s official announcement.

According to an EA rep, if you want to pick up SimCity but hate Origin, you’ll have the option to do so through other services. The game will be available on different digital distribution platforms, though no official plans have been made public. Here’s hoping for a Steam release. But the lack of forced Origin purchases isn’t the only snippet of info we have for you—information has emerged regarding the way in which SimCity will handle DRM.
Stone Librande (cool name), lead designer of the game, noted that SimCity will require a persistent internet connection in order for players to access its content. Even if you don’t buy your game on Origin, you will be required to be signed into the service while you play SimCity. According to Librande, the always-on requirement is the direct result of SimCity’s new focus on a global economy and multiplayer content.
What do you think? Are you willing to put up with always-on DRM to play a new SimCity game?

Seriously, going indie is the best course of action nowadays I think, indie devs don't screw their customers and treat them like thieves.

But if it is just an excuse and it is total crap. Then shame on you Maxis.
