Saints Row The Third Suffers Strange Censorship in Japan

Look, if you haven’t been following news on Saints Row: The Third, or you’re not really aware of the nature of the game, I’m just going to come out and say it: in this game, you can beat people to death with a giant purple dildo. I’m not sure why THQ thought that was a feature gamers wanted, but it’s in there. The weapon, called “The Penetrator” (ha, ha), is just another example of the Saints Row design philosophy, which is basically “Why not?”

Anyway, the weapon has come under scrutiny in Japan and THQ had to make some slight…modifications to its design. Most notably, the weapon no longer has veins, and will not flop around like…well, like a dildo. So now it’s more of a penis-shaped bat, which honestly seems about as offensive as the original design.

It’s an odd change, especially when you consider some of the stuff Japan considers perfectly acceptable in their games and television, but it’s a change nonetheless. So, if you were looking forward to wielding a floppy dildo like some sort of perverted sex-knight, you’d better stick with one of the western release versions of the game.

Or, you know….don’t do that.
