October Releases: What Will You Buy? |
Listed in: Genre Tags: arkham city, battlefield 3, forza 4, october releases
We’re a full week into October now, and the holiday games rush is just starting to pick up. While next week’s launch is relatively small compared to the weeks to come, it still marks an important transition from the regular game launch schedule into the full-tilt holiday barrage. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the big titles headed our way in the month of October.

October 11 - Forza Motorsport 4
An Xbox 360 exclusive, “Forza Motorsport 4” boasts new cars, graphical improvements and improvements in both car handling and tuning. Reviews have been trickling in all week and the general consensus seems to be that the game holds up to its predecessors, especially when it comes to online racing. There’s a demo available now on Xbox Live.
October 18 - Batman: Arkham City
Following the events of “Arkham Asylum,” “Arkham City” revolves around the Riddler and yet another set of nefarious deeds conducted by familiar Batman villains. Preliminary reviews have been extremely positive, so it looks like this is going to be a critical darling come release. As a side note, if you pre-order this game at Wal-Mart, you’ll get a $10 gift card and the original “Arkham Asylum: GOTY Edition” as bonuses.
October 25 - Battlefield 3
While there are certainly huge titles coming out this year, much of the gaming press has been focused on the upcoming showdown between EA’s “Battlefield 3” and Activision’s “Modern Warfare 3.” This newest iteration of the “Battlefield” franchise is sure to be a juggernaut and features a new graphics engine that’s very, very pretty. The multiplayer beta is still live if you want to get an early taste.
October 24 - Kirby’s Return to Dreamland
Okay, so admittedly this game isn’t on the same scale as the other three, nor does it have any chance of becoming a massive hit in the way that “Battlefield 3” probably will. That being said, Kirby’s newest adventure is probably the biggest Nintendo title of the month, followed by a new “Professor Layton” title and “Pokémon Rumble Blast.” Since none of the three big titles are headed to Nintendo consoles, it looks like Nintendo fans will just have to make due.
What game are you planning on buying this month? “Battlefield 3” is a sure thing for me, but I’m really digging the “Forza” demo.

Perhaps I'll wait for the Collector's Edition price to drop down a bit and then buy, not gonna pay 70 quid for it.
