If you haven't heard of the developer known as "Notch" than you certainly haven't been doing your homework. He is the creator of the wildly successful game known as Minecraft that has toppled any and all expectations for indie games everywhere. From topping the charts on Xbox Live, to dominating retail markets, this game proves that you don't have to come from a big gun development studio to make people happy. Here's the series next big milestone!

Sometimes the simplest game concepts can be among the most effective. We have seen this with the recent surge in touchpad based video games, and even Nintendo has chosen to bank an entire marketing strategy based solely on that idea. I mean come on, what could be a simpler premise than a game where you just build stuff using blocks? Yet through continuous updates and with tons of creative souls working to construct some pretty awesome things millions of other users have been drawn to try their hand at making their own Minecraft masterpiece.
It wasn't that long ago that I reported Minecraft download cards would be sent out to select retail stores like Best Buy and WalMart for those looking to get their hands on the PC version. According to recently compiled stats, this in store solution has allowed Minecraft PC to reach over eight million downloads alone. Considering the fact that this game still prides itself on its indie roots we certainly couldn't be any happier. We're glad to say that Notch himself is quite full at this moment as well tweeting that "My face is making grinning sounds, so I assume it's grinning."
We hope those grinning sounds keep happening for you Notch. Let's call this another victory for the indie scene!
